Judi Powers Acorn Charm
I can’t remember not being obsessed with acorns. I love the gently curving shape and smooth texture of the nut and how perfectly it both pairs and contrasts with the scaly cupule that holds it. Acorns have symbolized strength and resilience in my own life, and more broadly--and across centuries and diverse cultures--they symbolize growth and unity.
I carved the scaley cupule of the acorn in wax and cast it in 18K green gold. The nut is a carved colorless quartz, which has long symbolized clarity and focus. The idea of unity enhanced by clarity and focus is a powerful one, and I hope you’ll feel the strength of its meaning when you hold it in your hands.
I joined the Stay Gold Collective because, after a long period of drifting and meandering during the pandemic, I was desperately seeking connection and community within the jewelry industry. For me, growing as an artist, a professional, and a human demands interaction with those who inspire, lift, and challenge me and who are open to sharing ideas and information in a warm and welcoming space.
